| EY Song of The Week - Austra - 'Spellwork' Words: Orac & Babooshka |
| 02/05/11 |
'Spellwork' could well have been born during that magical Depeche Mode era somewhere between 1985's 'It's Called A Heart' and the early recording sessions for 'Black Celebration' - supreme knob twisting of the highest order. Lots of muso blogs are comparing Kate to England's Bush and more bizarrely as a 'Goth Florence'. Of course, here at EY HQ...we don't think that Austra are Goth at all (slight disagreement at camp EY as Babooshka is currently pulling me up on this one).
As for the goth tag, this track, as many are on the album, is concerned with dark aesthetics, otherworldliness, esoteric knowledge, melodrama and romance so perhaps 'gothic' would separate it from the more urban tag that conjours images of so called misfits in tight black jeans. Hopefully the anguish of 'The Noise' and the rolling piano of' 'The Beast' will be leaked shortly to give you all a delicious taster of the dark and diverse beauty of this fabulous album. For those of you that have morphed into Moz of late (Orac) and moaned continually about the Royal Wedding, Feel it Break will put some edgy romance back in your hearts...feel the spellwork around you. There's only two weeks to wait now and by then this promo will still be on continual play so jump and pre-order.
