DM: Never Let Me Down Again - Eric Prydz Remix
Electro waffle: Orac
06/04/11

Mute Records have this week unleashed another teaser from the forthcoming DM: The Remixes 2: 81-11 and we must admit to a certain amount of dread before blasting out this one following lots of fury over in the forum of prime EYHQ haunt Home.

Eric Prydz previous efforts had verged on the side of trashy euro electro and few can forget the tiresome monotony of 'Call on Me'. Eric was later attacking our precious ears with a hideous dance version of Pink Floyd snorefest 'Brick in The Wall' which was more like a brick in the face and quite simply wrong on every level. The track was bad enough the first time around in 1979 and we simply can't stand smokey hippy music here at EYHQ...and don't get us started on Muse either.....

Eric...we forgive you now for 'Call on Me' :) So it is with great surprise that we actually find ourselves currently bopping away to Eric's new mix of Mode's monster live fave 'Never Let Me Down'.
Built around a repeating and distorted sample of the track's opening guitar rift (the one that makes you want to act out the 'Devotional' live DVD in full and pull some sharp Gahan moves), this mix actually features very little of DM but somehow, someway..it kind of works.

Like Eric's previous output, this is one for the clubs but we do quite like all the extra bits he's added. This probably isn't a mix for the hardcore devotional but we think that this effort works far better than those aimless mixes that muddied the releases from 'Sounds of The Universe'.

Eric...we forgive you now for 'Call on Me' :)

The Remixes 2: 81-11 is released on June 6th.

EY: Points of View

EY has had some lovely feedback lately following the release of The Human League's 'Credo' and here's a couple of emails. First up is Anthony Leary in Australia who is positively loving his copy of 'Credo';

'Just wanted to say thanks for your feverish work of late in the excitement of the Credo release. I did not read your review prior to the post man delivering my much anticipated copy of the album last week as I wanted the full force and excitement myself with no spoilers.

Having now read your review I feel you have been spot on and I agree with almost all of your thoughts and observations of the album tracks. Like many others however I too am of the thinking that Electric Shock for all it's pounding dance floor glory is the track that has singe written all over it. Egomaniac is good but Electric Shock, for mine is a belter.

On a lesser note Privilege is indeed League Mk 1 and is my personal favourite. An absolute delight for us older League fans as you so correctly point out.

Our 3 year old son adores the album and continually sings along with a number of songs on the album in the car much to my wife's and mine's delight. Our near 13 yo daughter is still in denial but we have caught her out singing along on the quiet. Looks like a second generation of fans on board. :-)

Anyway, I am sure you have better things to do than read my waffle. Thanks again and by the way that link to the interview on Arts Desk is superb.

Now can we convince the band to come back to Australia??'

Orac: We like (electro) waffle :) Don't stop dancing to the mighty 'Credo'

David McGrath here in sunny UK also dropped us a line about a possible special edition of 'Credo'...

'According to Amazon, there is a 'Special Edition' of Credo?! Any information on this one?! Extra tracks....or is it just mixes?! NEED TO KNOW lol!

Credo

As a League super-fan since I was 12 (that's thirty years for the record!) I am blown away by Credo - after about a dozen listens so far it just sounds better with every listen. 'Electric Shock' is my absolute favourite, but there is not a duff track on it.
Saw them in London last year at the 2,300 seater Royal Festival Hall and it was SOLD RIGHT OUT!!! This poor woman standing near me was wondering how I knew ALL the words to all the songs (apart from Electric Shock). Fantastic night

Thanks for your continued...ummmm...CHAMPIONING of the League. Look forward to hearing from you! All the best'

Orac: No idea about this 'Credo' Special Edition. Wall of Silence and their hopeless PR company 'Bang On' continue to blank EY...so who knows what they have planned? A Credo 2-CD special edition would be most lovely though (with slightly better packaging) :)

On a totally unrelated note - EY is now archiving each news update that should make navigation of this monstrously huge old site a tad bit easier. Previous updates will now appear under the Twitter logo in the left hand column. For those who missed the utter brilliance of Babooshka's Computer Magic update - you can jump to it here.

It was 30 years ago on April 4th that baby Orac brought his first ever 7" vinyl single according to Orac's Schoolboy Diary of 1981! A few hours later on this momentous day, the slightly nightmarish pop 'act' Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision song contest thingy for the UK...anyway...back to the cool stuff. The 7" in question was 'Kids in America' by Kim Wilde and we think that it still sounds amazing today and very proud that Kim was our first (it could have been something hideous like Bucks Fizz). 'Kids in America' is a proper new-wavey-synthy classic - an absolute gem of a timeless pop tune. Enjoy the vid and raise a glass to lovely Kim for recording such a stomper.

News just in...NME have this week awarded The League's 'Credo' 7/10 which isn't a bad rating for them who believe that 'Credo' is; '... embodying all that is barmy, British and completely nonsensical about pop music, but this time with their best songs since 'Tell Me When'.

Have you snapped up your copy of 'Credo' yet?

(with thanks to Babooshka).
