The Human League MK1 - back to the future

Top Mojo journalist David Buckley has this week dropped EY an update on his most anticipated biography to date. 'Electric Dreams- The Human League, Heaven 17 and the Sound Of The Steel City' will now be released in glorious hardback this October to tie in with the 30th anniversary of 'Dare!'

Billed as 'the untold story', 'Electric Dreams' features valuable insights, photos and facts on the Sheffield bands who brought electronic music to the masses in the late 70's. A huge amount of input has been provided by League founder Sir Martyn Ware, the usually media shy Sir Ian Craig Marsh and Heaven 17 frontman Sir Glenn Gregory. Producers and former League members are also interviewed in what promises to be the most definitive account of The Human League ever to be published.

This 400 page volume can now be ordered directly from Amazon UK and expect a fab EY competition close to the release date.

Update: Hear the new Royksopp remix of Mode's Puppets!

EY is rushing this onto the site so you can all savior the blissful reworking of the 'Speak & Spell' track 'Puppets' by Nordic knob masters Royksopp. With a completely reworked (New Order-esque) backing to Gahan's vox, Royksopp have provided a perfect soundscape to the freakish heatwave we're having here in the UK with temperatures matching the Sahara (apparently). All that we need now is a jug of Pimms and ths mix on repeat for the perfect evening.
Exclusive to Pitchfork, the mix is taken from Modes forthcoming anniversary remix celebration out on June 6th.Jump on this link for the Pitchfork media player (but beware the scary 60s hippy track that follows).

EY readers can reserve a copy of the limited 3CD boxset here.

Lis Sladen 1948-2011

Lis Sladen RIPSad news last week and misty eyes here at EYHQ with the passing of Lis Sladen who played Sarah Jane Smith in what was Dr Who's most vibrantly creative period during 1973- 1976. Lis returned to the series during the David Tennant era with an appearance that was so successful that the BBC gave the actress her own award winning TV show that was due to enter into a 5th season.
I met Lis very briefly back in 1995 and whilst I was quite star struck and in awe of this iconic figure, she was absolutely lovely.

Tom Baker has written a beautiful and touching article about Lis and memories of filming Dr Who with her on his official site.

Dr Who is Back!

'Hello Sweetie' - Enjoy The Silence

After a so-so season 5 last year that struggled at times to fill the missing gap left by the mighty Russell T Davis despite the brilliant casting of Matt Smith, Dr Who returned to prime time Beeb 1 last night with the visually lush 'The Impossible Astronaut'.

44 minutes sped by quicker than a 'Vroorp Vroorp whooosh' and it was all very enjoyable with a slightly toned down Amy Pondlife from the annoyingly pouty-wise cracking version we had to endure last season. We also adored the very creepy The Silence or Silents..whatever these sharp suited nightmares are called - we Enjoyed The Silence as they produced one of Who's most chilling moments.
EY's Babooshka has written a lovely non-geeky review on the opening eppy and you can read her thoughts on the season premier by jumping here.
