Grimes


Lately, it's all been about the dub or the step or both which is great but I was in need of some whimsy and having ignored this enchantress purely on the grounds of her name, (slapping my wrist now, although I'm still not getting it) this is rather whimsy pop poppity brilliant.





 

Grimes is the talented Claire Boucher from Canada, another beguiling songstress that is quite different but as enchanting as her fellow Canadian Austra's Katie Stelmanis. Dreamy and otherworldly, she seems to harmonise with herself with melodies matched by swirling keyboards and haunting percussion.




 



'Vanessa' is more light than tracks from 2010's Halfaxa and Geidi Primes yet is still able to lift and transcend any mere mention of pop. So glad I listened but a plea to bands....have a little think about your name in googling terms, it's so frustrating having to take on the role of a detective to find you.

 

 

Now listen to this loveliness and check out this rather art cutsie video to match up. Imagine Alice Glass from Crystal Castles but oh so much more chilled. Yes another Canadian, it seems there is life beyond Arcade Fire after all and it's all a bit spooky beep beep.
