After endless PC problems, Secrets Online is very pleased to finally
showcase the third our series of free downloads. The
Audacity have turned their attention to 'Secrets'
gem 'Shameless' (possibly the
greatest song the League have written...so far).
Audacity's James tells us 'I think it's
the best one yet' and we agree.
Comparable to the Space Kittens
treatment of 'Stay With Me Tonight'
back in 1996, The Audacity have given 'Shameless' a euphoric twist
which is highlighted in the chorus. Uplifting and essential - the
perfect track to play on full blast before hitting the pubs and
clubs on a Friday night.
With a running time of just over 6 minutes you can download
sonic heaven by clicking on Shameless
2005
Note: This
mix is provided for non-commercial use to promote The Human League
and is copyright protected by the holders Chrysalis. The original
version of Shameless can be found on Secrets.
(With many thanks to James Hardiman)
Thoughts and comments about this new mix plus details of free Audacity
promos can be sent direct to the band at: mathew.stephens@lycos.co.uk
Many of the League's old albums are available
at bargain budget prices, some of which are digitally remastered.
If you have enjoyed the free mp3's made available through this site,
please support the band by purchasing the albums via the links opposite.
Up until recently, we were hosting Ex-Rental's nifty 2003 mix of
ESH that was to be included on the VBO but storage limitations resulted
in this and others being removed until we can cobble together some
more finance before mid-March.
Until then, Ex Rental are hosting the remix as a free download for
a limited period so if you missed this mix first time round be sure
to click here.

A new CD boxset will be released on February 7th from the Family
record label featuring original 12" mixes mostly from the early
80's.
A total of thirty 'extended' mixes are included in this intriguing
boxset including the League's 'Love Action'
mix.
It is also unclear whether the tracks have been remastered but for
the retail price of just £13.99 - it sounds like a bargain
to us with some very rare mixes making their CD debut.
Other artists featured include: Yazoo,
Japan, ABC,
Scritti Politti,
Siouxsie & The Banshees (with
the glorious Spellbound), Simple Minds
& The Cure to name just a
few whilst chavs will no doubt welcome Simply Red which is CD2's
only lowpoint. To see the full track listing and pre-order details
please click on the image opposite.
Snapper Music have contacted the
site to confirm that the League's bombastic Live
at The Dome will finally be released as a region 0 DVD in
the UK on March 14th. Secrets Records have also decided to keep
Stig's superior cover art which was previously used for the Tour
Edition. To pre-order a copy from Amazon please visit the following

Those
very generous people over at Q Magazine have very kindly provided
Secrets Online with two copies of their highly awaited 148-page
special entitled 'Depeche Mode
& The Story of Electropop'
for readers to win in our first comp of 2005.
This lavish special features new interviews with the League within
two articles written by David Bowie biographer and top Q scribe
David Buckley
and it's a fascinating read. David's article ends with a hopeful
sign that Ian Craig Marsh and Martin Ware may colloborate with Philip
at some point in the future.
Reproduction and Dare both get glowing full page reviews and after
Depeche - the League get the highest page count. Other new interviews
include Ladytron,
New Order
and the Pet Shop Boys
to name just a few.
Secrets Online highly recommends this special. I've spent the best
part of a day reading it and having followed many of the acts featured
for many years it's wonderful to see them all given the respect
they deserve and Q have produced a fitting tribute to them all.
Electro-heaven and Secrets Online gets a 'thanks to' mention also!
If you would like a chance to win one of these prizes then simply
send us an email with the header 'Electropop' and your address to
secretsonline@f2s.com
(closing date for this comp is 18/01/05).
'Depeche Mode & The Story of Electropop' goes
on sale in the UK on Jan 14th and copies can be purchased by
clicking here.
(With many thanks to Mark Blake
at Q) Top
music site popjustice.com
last week invited it's readers to submit what they thought was the
UK's best song of the last 25 years. The poll was instigated in
response to a rather lame and laughable Radio 2 selection of what
'middle aged' industry experts believed were the nation's fave singles.
One of the most shocking omissions from the Radio 2 list published
last week was the lack of Human
League, New
Order and electronic music in
general (though ABC
got a welcome mention for 'Look
of Love').
Being lovers of pure pop - readers of Popjustice have done the right
thing and produced a cracking top ten of UK acts with the League's
'Don't You Want Me'
clinching the top spot. A few horror tracks do manage to creep in
and DM's 'Enjoy The Silence'
is missing but this top ten is much better than the Radio 2 effort.
'Don't You Want Me' also featured in Virgin's high profile top 500
singles last week as voted by a nationwide audience (some 60,000
votes were cast) - the League's 2 million plus selling single of
1981 reached an impressive number 18. Click here
to view the full Virgin Top 500 (be warned - the top 5 is crap).
Here is the Popjustice Top 10 (orac owns eight of these records
but must publicly state that he has never bought a record by The
Spice Girls nor Steps).
1. Human
League 'Don't You Want Me?'
2. Pulp 'Common People'
3. Pet Shop Boys 'Being Boring'
4. Girls Aloud 'No Good Advice'
5. Dead Or Alive 'You Spin Me
Round (Like A Record)'
6. Spice Girls '2 Become 1'
7. New Order 'Blue Monday'
8. Sugababes 'Freak Like Me'
9. Electronic 'Getting Away With
It'
10. Steps 'It's The Way You Make
Me Feel'

Secrets Online recommends the following top telly: Shameless
(CH4), Desperate Housewives
(CH4), Battlestar
Galactica (Sky One) whilst the single of the week is Client:
Pornography which stands a great chance of charting on Sunday.
Nice and sleazy plus the b-side is another one of those tracks that
should have made it onto the album.

Secrets Online enjoyed it's busiest ever month in December 2004.
25167
unique visitors (an average of 811

pages within this site with the biography & images section proving
to be the most popular ports of call after the news page.
Almost 2,000 of you have so far downloaded the two Audacity
remixes that can still be found in the December news archives.

Secrets Online received an email from Q Magazine recently who have
been busy at work putting together a collaborative special along
with Mojo entitled 'Depeche Mode
& The Story of Electropop'
- the latest addition to their acclaimed Special Editions (the most
recent being a superbly researched 2-Tone/
The Specials
issue).
The Electropop Special features two new features on the mighty League
covering the band's entire career that includes new interviews with
Philip Oakey,
Martyn
Ware
& Ian Craig Marsh
plus in-depth reviews of the albums that were instrumental in bringing
this genre to a wider audience: Reproduction
and Dare.
Other highlights include a major new interview with the ground breaking
Depeche Mode
who are the cover stars along with Philip.
Kraftwerk,
New Order
and David Bowie
also take center stage in this highly promising publication whilst
other acts covered include OMD,
Pet Shop Boys,
Ultravox,
Soft Cell
& Japan.
A pick of the best electronic albums and singles are reviewed and
rated and this must-have special hits UK newsagents on January 14th
