Singles of The Week: Rachel Stevens
- Some Girls - Richard X does it again
- electro glam rock with hints of Goldfrapp's Strict Machine. Check
it out here
whilst our 2003 interview with RX can still be read here.
Girls Aloud - The Show - another poptastic
slice of early 80's electro and both singles can be heard over at

UK broadsheet The Observer unveiled their much publicised 'definitive'
Top 100 albums list compiled with the help of industry insiders,
music journalists and prominent artists. Ultimately, most of the
entries are the same usual suspects championed by dullards and musos
alike featuring albums that few of us would admit to owning.
The top ten is a depressing affair though The
Stone Roses do manage to pip
The Beatles
to the top spot (sadly, this is the only surprise).
Most electronic artists are predictably ignored by the rock establishment
but Dare does creep in at number 96 with plenty of woeful albums
ahead of it.
Here's what The Observer had to say:
96 Dare, The Human League
Virgin, 1981; chart position: 1
Forget the haircuts, remember the songs
A triumph of content over considerable style, Dare was at once phenomenally
commercial and gleefully avant-garde. Phil Oakey recently recalled
that during the recording process both Virgin Records and producer
Martin Rushent 'were adamant that anything that made the record
more saleable must be included', yet the album remains true to the
Sheffield group's experimental blueprint. It just so happened that
with 'Don't You Want Me' they had a worldwide hit that still fills
dancefloors to this day.

Burn it: Don't You Want Me; Love Action
The PSB's
excellent Behaviour album also
appears in the 90's whilst New Order's
only representation is 1983's sublime 'Power
Corruption & Lies' (no 'Get
Ready' or Technique??!).
ABC's 'Lexicon
Of Love' surprisingly manages to reach the top 40, though
for innovation - the lesser known 'How
To Be A Zillionaire' is a *far* better album. Once again,
one of the UK's biggest exports; Depeche
Mode are completely ignored so ultimately, I find it hard
to take these 'definitive' polls seriously but let us all thank
Paul Morely for at least getting
Dare into the Top 100.
I expected a more varied selection from judges who included Morrissey
(won't say a bad word about him as his latest solo album 'You
Are The Quarry' is breathtakingly good).
So to sum up, it's all mostly wank but you can view the entire poll
by clicking here.

A respected online ticket agency has released details of a new UK
tour where the headlining act are the Human League though tickets
aren't officially on sale yet.
Rumours suggest that this isn't related in any way to previous 'Here
& Now' tours with the first date kicking off in November and
running through till the end of December.
The first date to appear online takes place
at the Victoria Hall in Stoke On Trent on Saturday 27th November.
Online details can be viewed by clicking here.
